The people and stories behind the documents and art of World War 1

This exhibition consists of a fascinating selection of trench art from the collection of James Gordon-Cumming, made by soldiers and people during a time of conflict, using everything from shell casings, bullets, aircraft propellers and bone. It reflects on the global nature of the conflict and the creativity of the people behind the headlines.

Thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent Archive Service has opened access to one of its hidden gems, the First World War Mid-Staffordshire Appeal Tribunal: a window onto everyday life on the Staffordshire home front, accessing the case papers for men appealing against their conscription into the army during the First World War.
